Choy Lee Fut Kung Fu is a complete system of martial arts. It is
designed to build a strong foundation and develop basic skills which
are then continually built upon to improve a student's abilities.
The initial forms work first on building a strong horse stance,
developing extensive muscle, ligament and tendon strength in the
legs while introducing the first basic hand techniques. Further
forms work on this basic structure to improve mobility in the footwork
and more complex and adaptable hand and kicking techniques. As a
student progresses through the forms they are introduced to a more
developed system, eventually including throwing, grappling, wooden
dummy and sandbag techniques and weapons.
Classes also include extensive San Da training, which is contact
pad training and sparring designed to teach real fighting skills
for tournament or for self-defence. All classes are taught with
real fighting skills in mind. All along a student is encouraged
to question the techniques and learn the applications of moves.
Moves learned in forms will regularly be tested with other classmates
in two person drills and sparring. Every class is a complete full
body workout and will develop fitness and agility along with Kung
Fu ability.
Good kung fu is adaptable for any size of person and any body type.
Young or old, male or female, the basics are all the same. Then
a persons development is tailored to suit what is right for them.
A
student will develop great strength, flexibility, speed and dexterity.
Kung Fu will start to cross over into every aspect of their lives
as their increased strength and stamina, improved awareness and
reactions, sharpened mental focus and acuity all enhance their everyday
activities as well as their Kung Fu.
Practical self defence and fighting skills will be quickly learned
and constantly improved upon.
Private classes are also available - please feel free to contact
Alan directly for details.
Levels
Choy Lee Fut is divided into three main levels of proficiency -
Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced, with sub-levels within each
category.
At the beginner level a student learns the basics and begins to
develop a body capable of performing good Kung Fu. Within the first
six months a student will have developed useful self defence skills
and will recognise a definite improvement.
At the Intermediate level, a student works towards developing a
more dynamic and complex method and is introduced to a new level
of the art. Weapons training is introduced at the Intermediate level,
starting with the long pole (Seung Kap Dan Gwan) and the Chinese
Broad Sword (Darn Do).
At the Advanced level a student continues to learn more complex
applications to their empty hand Kung Fu and also learns more complicated
weapons forms and develops the essence of Yin and Yang and internal
power.
Basics of Choy Lee Fut can be learned very quickly, while mastery
of the system will take a lifetime. Kung Fu is a journey, not a
destination. Whether a person wishes to dedicate their life to its
study or simply enjoy a martial art hobby, Choy Lee Fut is something
that will be with them forever.
